Before or after?
Verb dict. とき ・ Verb た とき
Dictionary form: before it happens. た-form: once it has happened.
くにへ かえる とき、おみやげを かいます。
When I go back to my country, I buy presents (before leaving).
くにへ かえった とき、ともだちに あいます。
When I'm back in my country, I see my friends.
うちへ かえった とき、「ただいま」と いいます。
When I get home, I say 「ただいま」.

Giving directions
Placeを まがります ・ わたります
Moving through or along a place takes を.
つぎの かどを ひだりへ まがって ください。
Turn left at the next corner.
はしを わたって、まっすぐ いきます。
Cross the bridge and go straight on.
ふたつめの しんごうを みぎへ まがります。
Turn right at the second traffic light.
