22 Describing with a sentence

Put a whole sentence before a noun to describe it, and talk about clothes and plans.

  1. A sentence before a noun

    Plain Noun

    A plain-form sentence placed before a noun describes it.

    これは わたしが とった しゃしんです。

    This is a photo I took.

    あそこに いる ひとは だれですか?

    Who is the person over there?

    せんしゅう ならった かんじを わすれました。

    I forgot the kanji I learned last week.

    ははが よく つくる りょうりは カレーです。

    The dish my mum often makes is curry.

    Inside the describing sentence, the subject takes が, not は: わたしが とった しゃしん.

  2. Time, plans, things to do

    Verb dict. じかん ・ やくそく ・ ようじが あります。

    I have time to (verb) · plans to (verb) · something to do.

    あさごはんを たべる じかんが ありません。

    I don't have time to eat breakfast.

    きょうは ともだちに あう やくそくが あります。

    Today I have plans to meet a friend.

  3. Wearing clothes

    きます ・ はきます ・ かぶります ・ かけます ・ します

    Each kind of clothing has its own verb for wear.

    The person wearing that hat is Mr Yamada.

  4. Looking for a flat

    どんな Nounが いいですか。

    What kind of (noun) would you like?

    どんな へやが いいですか?

    What kind of flat would you like?

    えきから ちかくて、やちんが やすい へやが いいです。

    One that's close to the station with cheap rent.
