01 Introducing yourself

Say who you are, where you're from, what you do, and ask the same.

  1. I am …

    わたしはNounです。

    I am (noun).

    わたしは がくせいです。

    I'm a student.

    わたしは にほんじんです。

    I'm Japanese.

  2. I am not …

    わたしはNounじゃありません。

    I am not (noun).

    わたしは かんこくじんじゃありません。

    I'm not Korean.

  3. Asking a question

    …ですか？

    Add か to the end to make a question.

    おなまえは なんですか？

    What's your name?

    なにじんですか？

    What's your nationality?

    おしごとは なんですか？

    What's your job?

    Answer with わたしは … です.

  4. Who is that?

    あのひとは だれですか？

    Who is that person? (casual)

    あのかたは どなたですか？

    Same question, polite.

    トムさんです。

    That's Tom.

  5. Noun の Noun

    AのBです。

    B of / belonging to A.

    たなかさんは とうきょうだいがくの がくせいです。

    Tanaka is a Tokyo University student.

    キムさんは ソニーの かいしゃいんです。

    Kim is a Sony employee.

  6. How old are you?

    なんさいですか？

    How old are you? (casual)

    おいくつですか？

    Same question, polite.

    25さいです。

    I'm 25.
